English as a Second Language
This is a non-certified program intended for adults whose native language is not English. It concentrates on teaching the student conversational English and the skills needed to function in day-to-day life. This class will assist the learner in English speaking, listening, reading, and writing. An assessment is required upon enrollment to determine the level of English spoken.
Students from all nations are welcome and attend the same class meetings. It is not uncommon to have speakers of several languages in the class at the same time.
Students MUST register with FSD 2-3-5 Adult Education before attending a class.
High School Diploma Program
Our program is designed to inspire and support individuals who are determined to complete their high school education. To earn a South Carolina High School Diploma, adult students must complete 24 units. Students can transfer credits from their previous high school to our adult education program, making their journey to graduation more achievable.
Rest assured, all diploma candidates are supported throughout their journey. They must sign a contract agreeing to complete a minimum of two units every nine weeks. If they struggle to meet this requirement, they will be transitioned to the GED program, ensuring they continue their education.
Our program offers flexibility to accommodate the diverse needs of our adult students. Age-appropriate students have the option to participate in virtual-only classes, while those aged 16-17 are required to attend in-person classes. Both in-person and virtual diploma classes are self-paced, allowing students to progress at their own speed.

High School Equivalency (GED) Program
Florence School Districts 2-3-5 Adult Education offers high school equivalency classes designed to prepare students for the challenging content of the GED test.
During registration, each student's educational level is assessed using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). This assessment helps establish a starting point for instruction and enables us to create a personalized learning plan tailored to their needs.
Once students meet specific academic and workplace readiness criteria, Florence School Districts 2-3-5 Adult Education covers the cost of the GED testing fee (up to $150).
Subject Areas Tested
The GED test consists of four subject areas:
- Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA): Includes Reading, Grammar, and Extended Response
- Mathematical Reasoning
- Social Studies
- Science
Students take the test in parts, completing one subject at a time at an authorized testing center.
Passing Score
To earn the South Carolina High School Equivalency Diploma, students must pass all four subtests with a score of 145 or higher.
Cost
In South Carolina, each subtest costs $37.50, totaling $150 for all four parts. While students can take the GED without attending classes, those who enroll in Florence School District 2-3-5 Adult Education and meet certain criteria may have their testing fees covered through state scholarship funds.
Underage Students
Students aged 17 or 18 must complete the SC Verification of Withdrawal Form before registering for the GED test. This form should be submitted to your Florence School Districts 2-3-5 Adult Education teacher.
