Operations Divisions
The mission of the Florence School District Five Technology Department is to enhance the learning environment for students, teachers, and staff by providing reliable access to district technology resources. This mission is accomplished by ensuring that our systems are up to date with system and security updates and providing prompt response to technology issues that may arise.
Our district technology is comprised of 1,800+ Windows desktops and laptops, Apple iMacs, and Apple iPads. We are proud to have recently implemented a student 1:1 program. All students in grades 5k-12 now have their own district issued laptop enabling the students to connect over Schoology to complete assignments whether at home or at school.
We are constantly evaluating district technology resources to insure that we are providing the most up to date and useful technology resources to our students, teachers, and staff.

School Screenings
During each fall semester, school nurses and speech pathologists conduct non-invasive health screenings. Recommended screenings may include: vision, dental, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and hearing. If you do NOT want your child screened, please contact the child’s school nurse at the beginning of each school year. Parents will only receive notification for abnormal results. However, you may still contact the school nurse for your child’s screening results.
School Exclusions
Parents are referred to the SCDHEC website (www.scdhec.gov/health/diseases/school.) for questions regarding the need to keep sick children home or when recovering students may return to school. However, the site contains the minimum standards and Florence Five retains the right to enforce stricter standards where necessary.
Medication Policy
Over-the-Counter Medications
Over-the-Counter medication will require a physician order. Please bring a new, unopened container of over-the-counter medication for administration to your child at school.
Prescription Medications
Parents should administer prescription medications at home. However, in the event a prescription medication needs to be administered during the school day, the parent must provide the medication in the original container with the prescription label, a signed parent permission form, and a signed physician’s order. The appropriate form is located under the form links above. Florence Five retains the right to decline a request if not considered safe for a child during the school day.
Immunizations
By law, every student must have a current SC Certificate of Immunization on file to attend school. Please bring these to registration.
Also, proof of a current Tdap booster is now required for entry to 7th grade. Immunization information maybe uploaded into the state immunization registry if your medical provider has not done so. If you wish to opt. out please contact your school nurse.
SCDHEC also recommends several immunizations for children in addition to the vaccines required for school attendance. Recommendations include vaccines for: influenza (flu), human papillomavirus (HPV), meningococcal virus (MCV), and pertussis (whooping cough). Please visit www.scdhec.gov for a complete listing and discuss these with your child’s health care provider.
If you test positive:
- Contact school nurse.
- Child may return to school 24 hours after fever has resolved without the use of fever-reducing medicines and symptoms are significantly improving.
- SC DHEC information can be found at SC DHEC School Exclusion
